Requesting services:

(Services are open to all researchers, although the majority of our clients are from UCSF and Gladstone.)

  1. Email us at bioinformatics@gladstone.ucsf.edu with a brief description of your project. We should be able to help with nearly any statistics or bioinformatics request.

Cost guidelines: small-scale consulting projects are billed hourly, and vary depending on the complexity of the project. We can also work on long-term projects, which are frequently paid for as "percent effort" on a grant.

  • The Gladstone Bioinformatics Core offers a variety of services to meet the statistical needs of UCSF researchers. We try to be familiar with the latest methods available to help investigators get the most out of their data.   If you come across a paper with statistical analyses or other methodology you would like to use (or think the core should be aware of), please email it our way!

Advancing the Mission of Gladstone

The Bioinformatics Core frequently performes biostatistical analysis for Gladstone and UCSF investigators. Additionally, we have written statistical sections of several grant proposals, consulted with many investigators on statistical analyses, and created software tools and resources that enjoy widespread adoption worldwide. We have also provided custom training in bioinformatics and biostatistics to Gladstone staff, and we are currently investigating ways to expand these offerings.

About the Bioinformatics Core groups:

  • The biostatistics group provides experimental design and statistical analysis support. Services include experimental design, power analysis, data cleaning, statistical analysis, figure generation and technical writing.

  • The bioinformatics analysis group analyzes high-throughput sequence data. Services include sequence analysis, annotation and visualization.
    • RNA-seq: differential expression, alternative isoform expression
    • ChIP-seq: peak calling algorithms, annotate bound regions with gene information
    • Ribosome protection/footprint assay analysis
    • Whole genome resequencing
    • Gene Ontology and pathway over-representation analysis

  • The systems biology group provides integrated data visualization and analysis in the context of biological pathways and networks. Services include data integration, pathway and network analysis and visualization.
    • -omics data mapping and integration, including expression, epistatic, knock-out, RNAi, proteomics, splicing, RNAseq, CGH, and GWAS.
