Setting Up a New Project

  1. If you are setting up a new project please contact the MS Lab Director, Jeff Johnson, to set up a consultation. You may be referred to another member of the lab if certain expertise would be helpful (check out our People to view specific areas of expertise in our lab).
  2. During the consultation please be prepared to discuss the following:
    • Project goals - What information are you hoping to obtain by MS?
    • Experimental design - How will the experiment be performed to maximize the potential to meet project goals? How many samples will be analyzed? How many biological/technical replicates will be analyzed? What type of cells/material will be submitted? What if any quantitative procedures should be implemented?
    • Statistical analysis - How will the resulting data be analyzed? If necessary, we may ask you to meet with a member of the Krogan Lab's bioinformatics/statistics team for input on experimental design.
    • Cost - The MS Lab provides services at cost. Users are asked to either supply or pay for reagents. The cost of the analysis and mechanisms for payment will be discussed.
    • Timeline - How long will it take for the user to submit samples? Once submitted, we will provide an estimate for how long it will take to perform an analysis. You may wish to consult our Sample Calendar to view the current status of the queue.
  3. When you are ready to submit samples a member of the MS Lab will provide you with a samples submission form to be completed. Please email the completed form to the MS Lab prior to dropping off your samples.
  4. You will receive a notification by email once your samples have been analyzed and often results will be attached by email. Please feel free to contact the MS Lab to discuss your results!
